Hi! I am Joanne Dekker. I am a curious person who wants to understand everything I do not get yet. And I want to improve the world in my circle of influence. Currently, I am studying for the MSc Design for Interaction at the TU Delft.
As a designer I want to have a positive impact on the world around me. Therefore, design for happiness and well-being and design for sustainability are important to me and these directions interest me.
I find it important to understand people’s motivations before coming up with solutions. In a design context, many different groups and motivations come together, making it a complex task. I see it as my role to elicit, analyse and structure these interests, in order to come up with solutions for real and relevant problems. In the process, I aim to make people feel seen and heard.
And I love to analyse complex problems. By mapping down the different elements of the complex problem, it becomes clear where the possibilities lay. I like to look for the best possible interventions or solutions for complex problems.

Internship at Muzus
Muzus is a service design agency striving to make social impact. I learned more about making sensitizing material, interviewing, analyzing qualitative results and documenting and visualizing them.

The challenge existed of three assignments of three case owners, including case analysis, idea creation and concept development. Per case one day work in a group of 3 students.

Board Member and Founder Hartige Samaritaan
Hartige Samaritaan (Delft) aims to promote integration and acceptation between refugees and Dutch citizens.
Responsibilities include: graphic design and branding, secretary, external contacts, meetings with regional charities (Welkom in Delft), launching new initiatives and mentoring new teams.
2016 – 2017
Management Team Hartige Samaritaan
Management team of pop-up restaurant in februari of 2017. Together with 40 volunteers, we raised €22.000 for charity. Responsibilities include: kitchen and floor manager, design and team leadership.
